The 1981-82 wrestling season proved to be the best season ever for the CBHS wrestlers as they rolled up an undefeated dual meet record and finished second in the State Tournament, 5.5 points behind Chattanooga McCallie in the team standings. Picked to be the favorites in region competition this year, the Brothers, under the outstanding leadership of coaches Ferrugia and Aaron, certainly lived up to their expectations. Beginning the season with a bone-crushing defeat of arch-rival MUS at the De la Salle Coliseum on December 2, the Brothers decimated all of the other local competition and ended up with a 14-0 dual meet record. In tournament action, the Grapplers captured five first-place team titles this year with victories in the Bishop Byrne, Millington, Whites Creek, Raleigh-Egypt and Region 4 tournaments. The State Tournament was the final showdown for the Brothers. Chris McAfee placed first in the 119-pound weight class and Tom Marable snatched his second state title at 155 pounds. Junior McCutchen helped the Brother’s cause by placing second at 132 pounds.
