Brother Joseph took over for Coach Nix in 1977-1978 and lead the team to a 5th place finish in the region. Once again, 6 CBHS wrestlers, Brian O’Donnell (145 lbs. 2nd), Paul Averwater (98 lbs. 3rd), John Gross (132 lbs. 3rd), Walt Walton (UNL 3rd), Bob Wilson (138 lbs. 4th), Carl Pfeiffer (155 lbs. 4th) qualified for the state individual tournament. During the State Tournament Paul Averwater won his first two matches, advancing further in the state tournament than anyone from C.B.H.S. had ever advanced.
