1975-76 Wrestling

Record 9-4

In 1975-1976 was probably the most successful one in its four year history. THE CBHS matmen worked hard under the coaching of Coach Nix, and assistant coach Rich Sajak. The wrestling team complied a record of nine wins, four losses. Two of these loses were to the same team, Germantown, and the other two losses were to Bishop Byrne and Raleigh-Egypt, the two toughest teams in the city. With two of the team's starters out for injuries, the team quickly regrouped. In the District Tournament, eight of the twelve Brother's Wrestlers placed in the top four, proceeding to the Regional. Of these eight, six Christian Brother’s wrestlers qualified for the state tournament. They were Barry Flynn (185 lbs), John Gross (105 lbs), Jack Kinney (132 lbs), Bill Kinney, Lawson Glenn (126 lbs) and Pat Powers (119 lbs). Although these six wrestlers were eliminated, it meant a lot to the team to have six of its wrestlers (half of the team) qualify to make it to Nashville. With only one senior graduating, next year's team should prove strong.
